Talking to Myself

Is it normal to talk to yourself almost all the time? Because I do—every single day when I’m alone. I spend most of my time alone, and talking to myself gives me my own space and a little peace.
I don’t just think about things in my mind. Instead, I create an unknown character in my head and talk to them about random topics. Sometimes it’s just a passing thought, sometimes it’s something that’s been on my mind all day. Most of the time, when I’m alone, I feel better this way—it gives me a little company.
Since I don’t have anyone to talk to, I think my brain naturally does this to hold onto the friendship, trust, and love that make us human. Maybe it’s my mind’s way of reminding me that no matter how comfortable I become with solitude, a part of me still longs to be understood.
