FRACTURE

Fragments of an Ordinary Mind

My Own AI

“A man without a goal is like a ship without a sailor.”

I don’t know who said that, but I remember hearing or reading it somewhere. Whoever wrote that sentence was probably right. Everyone needs a direction to move toward—and I think I’ve finally found mine.

I love AI. I’ve been using AI since the very beginning of its rise... at least, that’s what it feels like. As far as my memory goes, my AI journey probably started with the launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI. I think they were among the first to bring AI into the hands of ordinary people. At that time, I was just beginning to learn about computers, and AI helped me a lot—something it continues to do even today.

I want to learn more about AI, and eventually... create one of my own. An AI that doesn’t just talk like a human, but feels like one. An AI that isn’t only built to solve complex research problems or perform tasks meant for scientists, but also something more—a companion, a friend, an artificial entity that doesn’t feel artificial. When you talk to it and have a conversation with it, the only difference you notice is that you know it is an AI.

I know nothing about AI or machine learning... yet. But I want to learn.

I know creating a truly powerful model that can solve complex problems will be extremely difficult. It requires years of work, knowledge, and especially enormous computing power—something I don’t have right now. So, as my first project, I want to start smaller. I want to learn the foundations first, then build a model focused only on human-like conversations.

It doesn’t need to solve every difficult problem in the world. I want it to feel like a real person when you talk to it. Someone you can share thoughts with, gossip with, laugh with—a simple friend.

I have no idea how to build something like that right now. But I believe I can learn it, if I get the chance.

Yes... the “chance.”

I can’t pursue anything by myself around here. Maybe that’s natural. I haven’t contributed anything to my family yet, so I feel like I don’t deserve much freedom. I don’t earn my own money. I live in someone else’s house. Because of that, they have the right to question and control my choices. I can’t even think about doing something for myself without expecting to be questioned or interrogated.

But I need to find a way. Somehow, I need to create that chance for myself.
